The road to business ownership was most definitely a whirlwind. After working in the automotive industry for 34 years I was approached to buy an existing Collision Centre that I had been working at on contract to purchase the business, this was an opportunity of a lifetime for me but one that I had not planned for.
After reaching out to the partners at the Bay of Quinte Business Centre to see if they could be of assistance, I filled out the necessary paperwork and submitted it for approval. I really didn’t know how this would go but something I realized I really was meant to do. The approval came back and the whole process started towards the role of Collision Centre Owner!
The BDC provided the funding to purchase the business and property which was amazing. Next step was to figure out how to raise funds for operating capital since I was coming in new and needed to pay payroll and suppliers without getting behind, my application to Community Futures Trenval was sent in with the hopes that I would qualify. I was scheduled an appointment to present to the board (it was like a job interview, but a great experience) and they said YES! WOW! This was really happening.
Funds came through, I was able to pay for all the associated expenses of business purchase as well as have some money for needed equipment upgrades. Here we are 4 months later, and business is thriving, my employees are happy, we have been growing the business quickly through word of mouth and by involvement in the community and I can honestly say this is one of the biggest endeavours I have done but also the most rewarding! (besides becoming a mom).

I am now living a dream I didn’t even know I had. I am absolutely loving my new role as Collision Centre owner, and I have the best team (more like family). We have picked up so many new accounts and are part of the CCS collision franchise who are supportive. We have been getting involved out in the community and gearing up for a fantastic year!
