CANtrade™ Loan Features

  • Borrow from $5,000 to $150,000
  • Interest rate of prime to prime +2%
  • Up to a 84-month repayment term
  • Interest-only payments for the first 6 months
  • No penalties or fees apply if you repay your loan early
  • At maximum loan amounts, other collateral security may be required
  • If the application is approved there is a Loan Administration Fee of 1/2%
  • Other terms and conditions may apply and may be updated from time to time.

Eligible Applicants

Applicants basically eligible for CANtrade™:

  • For-profit businesses operating in Belleville, Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon, Tyendinaga, Deseronto, and the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
  • Expanding to meet growing demand from customers in other provinces
  • Reshoring parts of your supply chain back to Canada
  • Upgrading operations to stay competitive
  • Refining production capacity
  • Hiring staff and investing in technology upgrades
  • Exploring new export markets
  • Reducing supply chain risks or pivoting to new industries
  • Developing near-market-ready products, services, or processes
  • Adapting offerings for local markets—such as certification, content translation, or compliance with local regulations

Project Suitability

Applicants will normally be pursuing some of the following activities (as examples):

  • Responding to increased inter-provincial trade/domestic customer demand
  • Re-shoring and localizing of critical supply chains
  • Undergoing competitiveness enhancements
  • Increasing production capacity
  • Hiring talent and investing in technology
  • Looking at opportunity costs of new export market development
  • Strengthening trade security/reducing product or supply chain exposure/pivoting to new sectors
  • Carrying out Applied R&D with near-term product/service/process innovation commercialization potential
  • Incremental business development/marketing activities
  • Investing in localization costs (e.g. certification, legal, labelling, testing, adapting content/products/services to specific languages and cultures, etc.)
  • Carrying out any other activities designed to diversify revenue streams.

  • Supply chain diversification
  • New market expansion within Canada and/or abroad
  • Increasing production capacity to meet new national/global demand
  • Working capital stabilization
  • Operational efficiencies and savings to absorb tariff impacts
  • Professional services (consulting) to assist in any of the above.

How to Apply

Application process

Applications for funding are accepted on an ongoing basis to eligible applicants who have eligible
costs/expenses and supporting cash flows.

To Apply:

  1. Complete the Application Form and Statement of Assets and Liabilities.
  2. Submit the Application Form along with the required attachments* to: Eileen Brown, Business and Loan Advisor ebrown@trenval.ca
  3. Security documents will be arranged for signature for successful applicants. Electronic signatures will be accepted on all applications. Applicants may be asked to meet with Trenval’s Investment Committee.

Supporting Documentation

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS REQUIRED WITH APPLICATION:

  • Completed application. Here
  • Master Business License or Articles of Incorporation.
  • Business project details with 2–3-year forecasting
  • Current financial statements.
  • Identification – 2 pieces Government Photo ID for all owners/shareholders.

Funding decisions are made by Trenval in its sole, unfettered discretion.

No amount of funding is guaranteed.

Program availability is based on availability of funding.

Applications will be assessed competitively and applicants will be subject to reasonable industry-standard due diligence.

Each party is responsible for their own legal costs.

Trenval may request substantiation of any claim, statement or information provided by CFP/CANtrade™ applicants and participants.

Recipients of CFP/CANtrade™ funding shall obtain and maintain General Liability and Property Damage insurance for the duration of the loan agreement (the term), and will provide certificate(s) of insurance upon the request of Trenval.

FAQ

Does my company have to show that we were negatively affected by tariffs in order to qualify for this loan?

No. There is no means test for CANtrade™. This is not an emergency or relief program. Instead, CANtrade™ aims to help you reduce business opportunity costs and confidently invest in future growth at a time of trade uncertainty and global economic change.

What if my business isn’t a fit for CANtrade™, are there other options for support?

Absolutely. Businesses and not-for-profits in Belleville, Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon, Tyendinaga, Deseronto, and the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte can apply at any time.
